Glycolic & Chemical Peels
Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face to smooth texture, reduce scarring, and remove blemishes and pre-cancerous growths to produce healthy, glowing skin. There are three types of chemical peels, ranging from mild to strong – alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), tricholoroacetic acid (TCA) and phenol – and formula strengths are tailored to each patient. Peels can be combined with other procedures such as facelifts for a younger look. They may be covered by insurance if they are performed for medical rather than cosmetic reasons.
Blotchy, dry, wrinkled or unevenly pigmented skin, as well as acne and blackheads can be banished. Not only can you improve the way your skin looks, but you can actually replace damaged cells, erasing years of sun damage and skin aging. When applied to the skin, studies prove that the Glycolic Rejuvenation stimulates the formation of new collagen for a younger, fresher complexion. You are actually building new skin layers, so your improved appearance is the result of completely new fresh skin. All skin tones can be treated with this peel.
Laser Hair Removal
Excessive hair growth may arise from puberty, pregnancy, menopause, heredity, medication, diseases or many other causes. Whether for hygienic or cosmetic reasons, the patient who is tired of temporary, often painful methods of removing unwanted hair – from depilatories, epilators and shavers to waxing and electrolysis – may welcome laser and intense pulsed light therapy with relief.
Lasers produce highly focused, intense beams of light that are absorbed by dark pigments in the hair follicles beneath the skin’s surface and converted to heat, destroying the follicles and preventing hair growth for up to two years. Multiple treatments are required for complete hair removal because the follicle must be “active” at the time of treatment and not all follicles are active at the same time. Treatments are needle-free and anesthesia-free, with most patients feeling nothing more than a slight sting like the snap of a rubber band.
Laser Vein Removal
Laser vein removal is surprisingly easy, fast, and effective. The laser light achieves vein removal by destroying the vein without burning the skin above. The laser will shoot a concentrated beam of light that passes through your surface skin and is preferentially absorbed by the hemoglobin in the vein. When the light is absorbed, it is converted to heat, a process that is similar to what happens inside a car that has been sitting in the sun. As the sun shines light into the car, the light is absorbed by the seats, wheel, and dashboard. It is then converted to heat, making them hot to the touch. The same happens to the vein. As the vein is gently heated (a process that occurs in 50 milliseconds or 1/20th of a second), the walls of the vein collapse and thus blood flow is stopped. Over a period of four to six weeks, the vein is reabsorbed by the body and disappears.
Obaji Blue Peel
The Blue Peel is a mild chemical peel used in combination with the Obagi Nu-Derm Restoration System for clear, smooth, healthy skin. During the peel process, the damaged surface layer of skin is removed, and soon it is replaced with a fresh layer that is smoother, well-toned, more even in color, and has smaller pores. The Blue Peel offers benefits over other peel methods because it allows the physician to control many aspects of the process, including the depth of penetration, so treatments can be tailored to the individual patient. On average two to three peels are required to achieve full skin health.
Acne Treatment
Acne is the term for the blocked pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that can appear typically on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. Seventeen million Americans currently have acne, making it the most common skin disease in the country. While it affects mostly teenagers, and almost all teenagers have some form of acne, adults of any age can have it. Treatment varies depending on the type and severity of lesions, skin type and the patient’s age and lifestyle, but on average results are visible in six to eight weeks. Patients with mild acne can supplement treatment at home by washing with warm water and a mild soap twice a day and/or using a topical over-the-counter acne medication.
